 940 & 941e-file Employment Tax Program

Description:

The 941e-file program allows the electronic filing of Form 941, Employers' Quarterly Federal Tax Return. The Form 940, Employers Annual Federal Unemployment (FUTA) Tax Return can also be filed electronically via the 940e-file program. Returns are transmitted nationwide via dial-up phone lines and menu-driven software directly to the IRS.

Who Can Participate:

This program is available to reporting agents that file and sign Forms 940 or 941 on behalf of their clients or business filing for themselves. Participation is also open to software developers and transmitters.

How to Participate:

  • Obtain Form 9041 by visiting www.irs.gov or call 1-800-829-3676 and the form will be mailed to you.
  • Complete Form 9041, Application/Registration for Electronic/Magnetic Media Filing of Business Returns and mail the completed application, Form 9041 to:

  • The 940 & 941e-file programs require reporting agents to submit a paper letter of application (LOA) to the Austin Service Center (address shown above).
